My Strongwoman story

I began training at the gym in 2003, at first focusing on toning weight training exercises- using moderately light weights for high repetitions, initially for health reasons. I discovered I really enjoyed the burn and challenging myself in the gym, so I gradually started to up the amount of weights I was lifting.

After gaining an interest in the Strongwoman sport, I was invited to my first Strongwoman competition in January 2006. With no prior specific strongwoman event training ever undertaken before the competition, I did well, coming in at 5th place.

After this competition I decided I wanted to compete again. I tailored my training to suit the competitions- training with heavier weight's and I started strongwoman training, practicing event's such as the Log lift and the Farmer's walk.

My next competition was Britain's Strongest Woman 2006, this was a very heavy competition and I was competing against some of the very best Strongwomen in the UK. It was a real experience to take part.

Since then I have continued to train hard and I have moved up the ranks in Strongwoman- gaining two trophies, one of which was for being ranked as the UK's 4th Strongest Woman 2006. The sport has led me to have more confidence in myself and I have also had lots of cool experiences such as appearing in magazines and on TV, as well as gaining valuable sponsors along the way.

In some respects I still feel like somewhat of a novice to the sport- I have lots to learn and areas I want to improve upon. My ultimate aim within the sport is to qualify for entry into the Worlds Strongest Woman competition. For now I am enjoying the ride- meeting lots of people, discovering new things about myself and getting the opportunity to travel.
